Easy Video Tutorial: How To Schedule & Embed A Private YouTube Video

This post may contain affiliate links for more info visit my disclosure page.

Have you ever scheduled a blog post and wondered how to schedule and embed a private YouTube video in it also?  Sometimes you may want to do this in a scheduled post and I will show you just how to do that today.

When you add a video to your scheduled blog post (see how to schedule a blog post here), you wouldn’t want your YouTube video to be public or be able to be searched out by anyone right?

For a scheduled blog post, it is best to also schedule your YouTube video so that both your blog post and video get published at the exact same time.

I have found out how to do this and I will show you in my easy to follow video tutorial.

In this post, I will go through:

TYPES OF YOUTUBE VIDEO STATUS

There are a few types of video status in YouTube and I’ll explain what each one is here:

  • Public – When a video is public, anyone can see it on the internet.  Whether it’s searched out in a search engine or within YouTube, anyone will be able to see it.
  • Unlisted – This status means you can only view the video if you have the exact link to it and no one can search for this type of video.
  • Private – This type of video is totally private and no one will be able to see it but the owner.
  • Scheduled – This is the status you can use to schedule your post.

You can set the status of your video at the “Info & Settings” section under the “Basic Info” settings

In order schedule a video, you need to upload the video as Unlisted, Private or Scheduled status.

Once it goes Public, you cannot schedule the video anymore, even if you put it to Private again.

Here is my easy to follow video tutorial to show you how to schedule your private video and embed it into your scheduled blog post.

STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS WITH SCREENSHOTS

In order to even have access to the schedule function on YouTube, you must become a YouTube Partner Program participant.  Meaning, you have to be approved to show advertisements on your videos, for more info click here.

Here are the step-by-step instructions to schedule and embed your private video:

STEP 1

Upload your video directly on YouTube or another program using the status Private or Scheduled.

 Choose Scheduled Status

STEP 2

Once uploaded, go to Basic Info settings and ensure your status is now at “Scheduled” if you had uploaded on Private status.

Change the Date and Time to when you want your video to go live and press Save.  Your video is now scheduled.

Set scheduled date and time

STEP 3

To get your embed code, change the status to “Unlisted” and press Save.  Wait a few seconds, then click on the title of your video up to to go to your video.

STEP 4

Go down below your video to see if the Share button shows up, if it doesn’t just refresh.  If it’s there, click on Share, then click on the Embed tab.

Click on Show More for video embedding options, choose what you’d like and then highlight the code and copy the entire code.

STEP 5

Paste the embedding code into your WordPress blog post in the Text tab of your editor.

STEP 6

Go back to your video, and click on the “Video Manager” on the bottom right of your video, and go back into Edit mode of your video at the “Basic Info” screen.

STEP 7

Change the status of your video back to Private, or else the Scheduled option won’t show up, and click on save.

STEP 8

Change the status one last time back to Scheduled and ensure the scheduled date and time is where you had it before, and click on Save one last time.

Now your scheduled video is ready to go and embedded into your scheduled blog post!  Congratulation!

TIPS:

#1) NOT BEING ABLE TO GO BACK TO SCHEDULED AFTER BEING UNLISTED

If you can’t go into Unlisted mode to get the code because it won’t let you schedule it again after it goes Unlisted, then you’ll need to just delete your video and re-upload as indicated in Steps 1 & 2.

Instead of following Step 3 – 8, you can get the embedding code from a public video you have or any public video on YouTube.

When you copy the embedding code from another video that’s already published, you just have to change the portion of the code that links directly to your video, from the published video to the scheduled video as follows:

EMBEDDING CODE OF PUBLISHED VIDEO:

<div style=”position:relative;height:0;padding-bottom:56.25%”><iframe src=”https://www.youtube.com/embed/pMW9B4gML-w?rel=0?ecver=2″ width=”640″ height=”360″ frameborder=”0″ style=”position:absolute;width:100%;height:100%;left:0″ allowfullscreen></iframe></div>

You will need to update the coding after the “/embed/” and before “?rel“, in this case, I would replace the characters “pMW9B4gML-w“.

SCHEDULED VIDEO DIRECT LINK:

This link can be found here in your video edit screen:

I will replace “pMW9B4gML-w” with “WLOo2sccrnQ“.

NEW EMBEDDING CODE FOR SCHEDULED VIDEO:

<div style=”position:relative;height:0;padding-bottom:56.25%”><iframe src=”https://www.youtube.com/embed/WLOo2sccrnQ?rel=0?ecver=2″ width=”640″ height=”360″ frameborder=”0″ style=”position:absolute;width:100%;height:100%;left:0″ allowfullscreen></iframe></div>

#2) HOW TO CENTER YOUR VIDEOS IN WORDPRESS

I usually adding some extra coding to the top of the embedding code and at the end like this:

<div align=”center”>
<div style=”position:relative;height:0;padding-bottom:56.25%”><iframe src=”https://www.youtube.com/embed/WLOo2sccrnQ?rel=0?ecver=2″ width=”640″ height=”360″ frameborder=”0″ style=”position:absolute;width:100%;height:100%;left:0″ allowfullscreen></iframe></div>
</div>

Sometimes, they must be on separate lines exactly as shown above or it may not work.

Remember all this coding is done in the Text tab of your WordPress editor and not the Visual tab which is the default when you’re preparing/editing your blog post.

  7. There is a WordPress plugin that enables you to embed private YouTube videos available now. This way only your website members will be able to watch them but they will not be able to share them. Check out this detailed tutorial at embedprivatevideo (dot) com.

    • Appreciate your info Doug, will look up that tutorial. My tutorial is for the purpose of scheduling your video though and not to remain private. My tutorial shows how you can sync both your blog post and your video to go live together, but you would need to embed that private video first. When both goes live, I would want my video to be public.

      Thanks for your input!
