When done right, affiliate marketing can be profitable, which could be a great help to pay some bills, buy groceries, and if you’re earning more, this could even be job replacing.

You can find a lot of online businesses that offer affiliate programs and that’s because they need to if they want to survive this online game.
Look at the traditionally successful companies like Toys R Us and Sears, all bellied up because they didn’t invest in much online presence and didn’t use the power of affiliates to promote for them.
It’s a no-brainer for companies to use affiliates to generate sales because there’s no outlying costs to them to offer these programs and only pay a small price when the affiliates generate them sales.
It’s a win-win situation that is going to help everyone grow online, for the companies that make the products as well as the affiliates that promote them.
So, most companies that are online these days will have affiliate programs for you to apply to. Simply go through their website and find the section for affiliates or a partnering type of program, usually they are called affiliate programs.
Most affiliate programs are free, so you don’t need to worry about the costs. Once you complete signing up and approved, you’ll be given your special affiliate link(s) that you’re going to use on your blog to link to their products and services.
When people click your link and make a purchase, you’re going to receive a commission for those sales.
Commission rates vary from online companies. Some only offer about 5%, which is quite low; but some offer, as high as 50% or even 100%.
Also, some programs provide a set rate for each sale. This means that instead of receiving a certain percentage, you’ll receive the same commission amount for each sale you have encouraged.
Each affiliate program is different and you need to read about each one to see what they offer to decide whether you should use them or not.
Affiliate marketing is definitely a great way to monetize the articles you write if you want to make money from them.
Why Is Affiliate Marketing Amazing?
Using affiliate marketing to earn money from the articles you write will create a nice stream of passive income because you can earn money literally at any moment in a particular day.
You don’t only earn when you work and you don’t just earn once for the work you do either, you can earn from an article over and over again at any time of the day.
The only thing that will require a lot of your time and effort is when you’re creating content so you can promote the products you’re affiliated with. And, that’s pretty much it.
The content you create will be there permanently, and each time someone lands on your post, there’s a chance they’re going to click your affiliate links.
What you’d want to do is get your articles ranked on search engines, that way, you will get TONS of traffic coming to your blog and earn even more commissions.

So, starting your affiliate marketing business might be a bit easier for you.

Step 1: Pick a Niche (and Narrow It Down!)
When you already have your own blog, it’s most likely that you already have a niche. What I would recommend though is: you need to narrow it down.
For instance, your niche is dating and relationships. This niche can still be narrowed down to finding the right partner, being great parents after the divorce, how to meet your soulmate online, and the list goes on.
As you can see, this niche can target different kinds of people. Your goal is to have a target audience and address a specific problem they have.
So, what you’re going to do is, choose which audience you want to target. For example, you want to help divorced women find new partners through online dating sites.
This is how it looks like:
Niche: Dating and Relationships > Business: Online dating sites > Target: Divorced women > Purpose: To date again and find new lovers
When you have a target audience and understand what they need, it will be easier for you to sell them something.
In the example I’ve given, you can recommend them dating sites where a lot of women finally found happiness or whatever.
This way, your audience would feel that you understand what they need and will trust whatever it is you’re going to recommend them.
Step 2: Search for Different Affiliate Programs and Products
Now that you have determined your specific niche, you need to find affiliate programs and products to promote on your blog.
You need to spend time when finding affiliate programs to make sure that you choose the right ones.
Don’t be in a hurry, take the time to get to know the company, their terms, their affiliate marketing arrangements, etc.
Whatever you promote, make sure:
- The product/service you’re promoting is of high quality;
- You’ve used it yourself, if you haven’t, then thorough research much be done to provide full information on the product/service you are writing about; and
- The price of the product is between $50 – $200 because it’s a great price point where they don’t have to think too hard about, but high enough price point to get you earning a nice stream of income.
If you use these tips to choose your products/services to promote, then you’ll get a nice stream of income if you can build this business properly.
Step 3: Create Unique, Helpful, and Compelling Content Regularly
After finding your affiliate programs and products, it’s time that you create content for your blog website.
No, you’re not going to start promoting your products the moment you make content. Your first goal must be to earn your audience’s trust.
You must build a relationship to convince them that you’re here to help them, and not only to sell them something.
You also have to establish authority so they will see that you’re an expert on the topic and will trust the things you’re going to recommend them.
Using my example above, you can create blog posts like “10 Ways to Get Over a Failed Marriage” or “How to Move On From a Failed Relationship” or “20 Things You Can Do Today to Recover From a Divorce.”
This is why this affiliate marketing business actually takes longer to build than most think and it’s because you must build enough trust before people start clicking on your links.
Building trust means giving value to your readers, allow them to learn something from you, give them a reason for going on your blog in the first place.
That’s why you need to create quality content for your blog.
Another huge reason why is that these articles are what is going to bring traffic to your site if you write it properly and use the right keywords.

When your audience is big enough, you can already promote your affiliate products. There are so many ways you can incorporate your promotions in your content.
An important thing you should keep an eye on – make sure they blend naturally in your content.
Be completely honest when recommending your products so you won’t lose the trust you have carefully build with your followers.
Moreover, there are other ways you can promote your products aside from including it on your blog post: email promotions, banner, ads, and giveaways. It’s totally up to you how you’re going to do it.
But, the best way is to use the SEO strategy as it gives you the best, highly targeted free traffic, and long term earning potential.
