How To Start Blogging For Income?

When you start your blog, you will need the following steps:

  1. Picking a Niche
  2. Setting Up Your Blog
  3. What You’re Trying To Do When Blogging for Income

#1) Picking a Niche

When starting a blog to make money with, it’s important to focus on a niche, which is a group of people who are interested in a particular topic.

You cannot start a blog if you haven’t decided yet which niche you are going to target. That’s the very rule of it if you want to blog for income, your blog needs to be focused.

Why?

You see, when blogging for fun, the niches are usually general subject matter. Most of the time, these niches are broad and unspecific, giving the people a chance to explore them.

However, when you’re blogging for income though, it’s a whole different story because you want to start much smaller, in a sub-niche.

For instance, one of the most common niches today is health and fitness. But that niche is way too broad and you’ll never get anywhere if you’re going to start so broad as the competition is superbly high.

Instead, you will find hundreds or thousands of sub-niches under “health and fitness” that your blog can focus on.  You may go for supplements, therapeutic amenities, and so forth.

You can also focus on a certain type of supplement for a certain age group even.  There is money to be made in smaller niches like this.

It is essential that a niche has to be specific and more narrowed down so your blog can be searched out on search engines.

Seasoned bloggers know that niche sites are the way to start because you can really serve your audience as they are a focused group of people who will have a set of aches and pains that you can help fix.

In fact, a single micro niche is still hard to establish so keep that in mind. You will stumble on a lot of subjects that are related to that niche that you need to cover.

Furthermore, you will realize that large and popular niches have fierce competition. They are popular because people are always searching for them.

As a result, bloggers want to ride their wealth wave but, as a beginner blogger, you will find it very hard to penetrate those niches.

We do recommend that you try on a less popular niche, more smaller, narrowed down niche. If you are new to the business, you have to do so.

You need to gather a strong workforce and a multitude of research materials to tackle big niches, stop competing with news sites and narrow down your niche.

#2) Setting Up Your Blog

For your blog to become a reality, you will need a domain name and a web hosting service which means, you’re self hosted.

Web hosting services cost around $3/month up to a few hundred a month depending on the security and features of the plans.

Normally, many bloggers will go this route, I have myself on this blog, but all m other blogs after this one has been on a hosted blog training platform.

You still need a domain name which you can buy on their blog training platform or somewhere else but what’s special about this place is that you also get training to learn how to make money with your blog!

#3) What You’re Trying To Do When Blogging for Income

A lot of beginners get confused about this part as they don’t know how to focus their content.  Remember that you’re starting at a narrowed down niche.

Then, you will find out in that niche you picked, what problems your target audience have and how can you help to take those problems away.

You are trying to match the target audience, who are searching for solutions, with the products or services that will give them the solutions they are looking for.

That’s what your blog is trying to do, show your readers how they can fix their problems with products or services you will be recommending to them.

But, in order for them to try your recommendation, your blog content will need to show them enough value and helpful information that will establish enough trust in your relationship before they will click any links on your blog.

Once you have established trust, that’s when you’re going to really thrive with your blog!

How Your Blog Makes Money

Did I just mention products and services?  No, you’re not going to need to create any products or services.

What I meant above there was affiliate products and services.

Affiliate marketing is often used by bloggers to generate money through their blogs along with other methods like display ads, guest posting, sponsored posts, etc.

However, affiliate marketing is definitely the most popular considering of the potential yields that it can bring.

Affiliate marketing usually involves referrals to third-party websites. These sites will pay you a certain fee if you create new sales for their products or services.

In short, it is a type of commission you could earn from promoting other people’s products.

It is a good idea to make your blog as an affiliate site. Not only it can provide your readers with the essential information they need, but it can also help them get the products they need to solve their problems.

There are three major players in an affiliate marketing scheme:

  • Retailer
  • Advertiser
  • Consumer

In these three, your site will become the advertiser on behalf of the retailer. You will connect their products to their targeted consumers. If you have a large audience following your site, the chances of getting a sale will be higher.

You just need to accredit your site as an affiliate of third-party retailers (such as Amazon). Once they have approved your site, you can already start marketing any of their products that are related to your site.

How You’re Going to Get Visitors

Now, the biggest challenge in making an affiliate blogging site is ranking it on search engines and getting that highly targeted organic traffic.

Google, Yahoo, and other search engines have specific algorithms that help them rank sites that are registered today.

In any given niche, various sites are already targeting them. This predicament applies even for niches that aren’t too popular.

That’s the very reason why you need to target small niches because you have better chances at winning than those relatively large niches.

Search engines today are stricter more than ever. If they find your site shabby or dubious, you will get penalized.

Gone are the days where spammers can still profit from spammy content, those things are gone now.

If you want to rank better, you need to do it the hard way.

White hat SEO is the proper route in making your site appear in the first page of these search engines.

When the right kind of SEO is implemented, getting into the tier ranks will be a plausible feat. Of course, this will allow your site to gather enough traffic.

Here’s a sample of my blog’s monthly traffic, 45,000+ visitors and my organic free traffic from SEO is 92%:

The world of SEO is diverse. It may sound simple but doing it is quite complicated. Sometimes, you need to use paid services and applications to do SEO better. After all, doing it manually is undeniably difficult.

Getting the right keywords, making high-quality and relevant content, and building links are among the slow but sure-fire methods of ranking your site in Google. Do more of these things and you’ll get to the top.

It’s also best to just get the blog training I mentioned earlier, they teach you all this and it’s exactly where I learned it myself, check out the blog training here.

Best Way To Convert Your Readers

Is it really enough to just ranked in Google and hope for the best?

Well, if your intention is just to rank first, then you can just settle on this achievement.

But if you are after getting monetization and converting your readers into customers, there’s another thing that you have to do: make high-quality content.

Many successful affiliate sites out there usually create engaging and useful information on theirs. They are the ones that are imposing authority and legitimacy in whatever they are saying.

In short, there’s a truth in their words and that what makes people dig them.

The content that you put in your site should be useful to your audience. You cannot market any product if you don’t provide your readers with the right information that they want.

You are an affiliate site, not a store. Therefore, everything else in your blog should be a focus on answering the needs of your audience.

This establishes trust and when you have trust, that’s when you can really convert your readers to sign up or go check out what you recommend to them.

Of course, it is also necessary that you can add content on a regular basis and staying consistent with a set schedule.

Aside from telling your readers that your site is always fresh, constant updates give you the chance to improve your ranking in Google.

It enables you to target more keywords, which could establish the legitimacy of your blog and build even more trust.
