7 Tips On How To Get A Higher Ranking On Google For Your Blog

1. Utilize Keywords Within Posts

A keyword is a special word or phrase that describes the content of a web page. The trick is knowing what terms to use along with when and where to apply them.

Basically, keywords are the words people use to search for things on the internet.

If you use those same words in your posts, then you’ll be telling search engines that your post talks about this subject and so it will likely rank you higher to give their searchers relevant sites to look at.

How To Get A Higher Ranking On Google For Your Blog

This task is often extremely difficult for beginning bloggers, and sometimes, it is hard for the self-proclaimed experts of the field as well. There are resources such as YouTube videos, websites, and more to teach search engine optimization.

The problem with learning in this way is that it is anybody’s guess if the sources are credible. These instructors may not have a clue as to what they are doing.

When people use the right keywords in their content, their ranking improves, and who knows, they may even find themselves at the very top of the search results list.

If this occurs, increased traffic will start funneling their way.

Therefore, it’s critical to use terms and phrases that people are using to search for things in search engines in your own content so search engines know you’re talking about the same thing people are searching for.

2. Be Informative And Entertaining

Storytelling captures the reader’s attention and keeps them entertained.

If you want people to view your stuff over and over again, the posts must be entertaining, amusing, and engaging. The content should be valuable to your audience and that’s what’s going to capture their attention.

Why do people search the internet? On many occasions, they do so to find answers to questions they have.

Falsifying information, guessing, or providing inaccurate statements is a huge no-no as visitors likely won’t return to your blog again.

Plus, if folks start talking about the misinformation on social media or other places, your site will gain a bad reputation.

Just like a traditional brick-and-mortar store, if the blog name gets tarnished, traffic can stop flowing in, which will cause your statistics to decline.

Avoid this issue by captivating and engaging your fans with your high quality content.

Writing in a conversational tone will relate to your audience better and you’ll be able to explain things in a manner that will be understood.

3. Make Your Site Mobile Friendly

Much of the traffic that websites receive today comes from mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets.

Making the pages compatible with phones is an excellent solution for how to get a higher ranking on Google for your blog.

It improves the user experience, which in turn, grows the audience and advances the blog’s position on the search engine.

Most WordPress themes these days are mobile friendly, but you gotta make sure the one you’re using is.

4. Engaging Title

Having an engaging title for your posts will improve your click through rate and thus, will improve your Google rankings.

Your title should not only include your keyword but something else that will make searches on the internet want to click on YOUR link vs all the other ones on the search page.

Click through rate is definitely a ranking factor so you should keep this in mind when creating your high quality posts.

5. Post On A Regular Basis

One sure-fire way to keep the search engines happy is to keep the content fresh. This is a no-brainer for lots of people, and most folks will be doing this task anyway.

However, some bloggers can become lax on their writing and go from adding a new post daily to only once or twice a week.

Some may even take longer breaks which will certainly be detrimental to your blog, once you stop blogging for long periods of time, Google will start de-ranking you to some degree.

The longer it is, the worse it’ll get, the more competitive your niche is, the more you’ll lose rankings if you don’t continue to blog.

Avoid this by sticking to a consistent publishing schedule that you can keep up.

6. Pay Attention To The URL

One of the first things web crawlers examine in determining page rank is the site’s URL. Short and sweet is better as the title will be easier for the bots to look over but make sure your keyword is in there.

Additionally, a shorter name also improves the user experience and can make it simpler for them to remember for returning back again.

When deciding on a URL, keep it relevant to the topics that will be covered as well as the keywords that will be used.

7. Internal & External Linking

You should also add 2 internal links and 1 external link to your posts to get ranked higher.

Internal linking is when you link to your own posts within your own website, telling search engines that hey, these other posts are important too.

External linking is when you link to other websites which tells search engines that you’re not afraid to give your traffic to other sites.

Most people will link to new sites or Wikipedia for this purpose.

  1. Thanks for your tips, I haven’t thought of them. It’s been really hard to get traffic from Google, how often do you have to write and what kind of keywords are best to use?

    • Hi Lisa, Thanks for your comment and visiting my blog!

This year is a wild ride for most bloggers because Google is going a little crazy with their updates this year but at the end of the day, what really matters if high quality content that adds value to people’s lives.

How often you have to write will depend on your niche but staying active and producing regular valuable content is a must. How often is dictated by how competitive your niche is. If your niche is competitive, you’ll need to blog more often like up to 7 times a week or more. If your niche is less competitive, then you can get away with 2-4 times a week.

Whatever you do, stick with it and be consistent.

Keywords are a big topic and obviously it’s best to use ones that have high search volumes but low in competition. You have to use the right keyword search tool to find these awesome keywords, which you can find here.

If you don’t know about SEO that much and how to get your blog moving in the right direction to making money, you should consider checking out that video above and the training at Wealthy Affiliate.

It was because of their training that taught me how to make 4 figures a month, find out more about them here.

I wish you best of luck whatever you decide, but it’s better to be coached as well as being a part of a community that you can get help at anytime!
