7 Factors to Consider When Starting an Affiliate Marketing BusinessYou probably know by now that affiliate marketing is one of the best online businesses for anyone who wishes to earn income on the internet.

This might be the reason why you’re here right now and glad you’re seeing what factors you should consider when starting an affiliate marketing business.

In this post, I’ll share with you the affiliate marketing strategies that I have used in my experience as I have been doing this for 2.5 year and earning a consistent 4 digit monthly income with it.

The affiliate marketing business is not as easy as most think and it involves a lot more if you want to be successful at it.

The “easy” way to affiliate marketing won’t really work these days as you can’t just spam your affiliate links everywhere.

You’ll want to start it doing the proper things that will ensure a long term passive income stream for you.

So let’s check out the seven factors to consider when starting an affiliate marketing business:

  1. Choose A Great Niche
  2. Build Your Website
  3. Search for the Best Affiliate Programs
  4. You Need to Work Hard. A lot.
  5. Consistency Is Key
  6. You Must Have Perseverance
  7. Get Training!

1) Choose a Great Niche

Before anything else, you must determine what your niche is. Choosing a great niche is essential to the success of your affiliate marketing business.

Sadly, many do not see how crucial it is when choosing the niche of their online business.

How to Find the Best NicheWhen you start checking out different niches, you will realize that there are so many of them. This makes it challenging to choose which one is for you.

Keep in mind that niches are not made equal. Some are more profitable than others.

The first rule is to choose a niche you are passionate about. You must have vast knowledge and experience with it. But if you don’t have vast knowledge, it’s okay as long as you’re very interested in that topic and willing to do research.

However, it shouldn’t be the only factor you must look into.

So, which ones should you consider? The two other factors you must look into when choosing your niche:

  • It must have a huge following. By this, I don’t mean really huge that you’re already competing with giant and well-known brands.
  • It must stay relevant (or doesn’t go out of style).

To give you some ideas, here are some of the most profitable niches in affiliate marketing:

  • Wealth and Money
  • Health and Wellness
  • Dating and Relationships
  • Gaming
  • Hobbies

These niches are broad and can be broken down to thousands of sub-topics/sub-niches. Make sure that you narrow down your niche so that you can address a specific group of target audience’s needs and problems.

For example, a subtopic of Wealth and Money is Affiliate Marketing Business, so you can share with them useful content like “How to Make Money With Your Blog” or “Your Complete Guide to Internet Marketing.”

Or if you like cooking, a sub niche could be as narrow as “kitchen knives”, “coffee machines”, or a little broader like “vegan recipes”.

There are literally hundreds of thousands of niches, you can just go on Amazon alone and each of those sub categories are a great niche.  So go there for niche ideas!

Another way to search for niches is on Google Trends to see if your niche idea has a steady interest.  You don’t want to go to niches that are too fad based, because you are doing this for the long term.

Special Note: Don’t be tempted to do more than one niche as your start.

Many people start with 2 or 3 niches which means 2 or 3 websites, but you guys have no idea that ONE website is already a LOT of work.

There is much to learn in the beginning so your FOCUS on one website is very important.

You will see results much faster if you put all your work effort into one site, instead of spreading your work on 3 sites which will thin your work per site.

In turn, having 3 sites will take much longer to see results from any of them because instead of putting 3 posts on one site, you’re putting 1 post on each site.

The more content on one site, the more it can get ranking faster, the more traffic it’ll get earlier, and the more money you’ll earn.

Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

2) Build Your Website

Once you have determined which niche is best for you, your next step is to build your website.

“Is it okay not to have a website? I’ve read somewhere that it’s totally fine!”

Yes, it’s okay not to have a website, if you choose not to. However, I will strongly recommend that you create one.

If you don’t have a website, you won’t have online presence and without online presence it’ll be very hard for you to build free traffic.

In addition, many affiliate programs prefer affiliates who have their own sites. Some may even ask for your site’s URL before you can join their program.

Companies now are quite particular with their affiliates. The main reason is they want to make sure that your site and reputation will not affect their brand.

Don’t get intimidated with building your own website. Today, you can create one easily in a matter of minutes.

You can check out the training platform I use to build my affiliate marketing business with, which has a very easy SiteBuilder on it.

It’s really easy to use, just follow the steps, and you’ll have your site up and running in no time.

3) Search for the Best Affiliate Programs

Now that you have your website, it’s time that you look for affiliate programs you can join. There are so many out there, so it won’t be that hard to find which ones are the best for you.

Although you need to invest your time in figuring out which ones you’re going to join. Learn more about the company, the products they are offering, the commission you’re going to receive as an affiliate, how in-demand their products are, and so on.

How To Sell Affiliate Products Online

Make sure that you have the right company. After all, it is where you’re going to get your commission.

The fastest way to find affiliate marketing programs is by doing a Google search. Simply type in “niche + affiliate program”. You will then see various companies that offer affiliate programs.

When choosing affiliate programs, don’t forget that most prominent companies let people become affiliates for free. However, some may charge you. It really depends, but, personally, I wouldn’t join any that make me pay.

So, if you need to pay to become their affiliate, make sure their products are of high quality and profitable.

4) You Need to Work Hard. A lot.

Once you already have an affiliate product to market, it’s time for some real work. Take note that just because you have already partnered with a company, it doesn’t mean you’re going to start earning right away.

If you’re a blogger or an influencer and already have a following, then you can actually market those products right away and will likely earn in no time.

However, if you’re just starting out, you need to build an audience first. It’s hard to sell something when no one really knows or trusts you.

The most effective way to build your audience is to keep creating useful and unique content.

Focus on your niche and determine which problems your target audience share. Provide them with solutions that they can use in their everyday lives.

Once they realize that you’re actually helpful and that you really know what you’re talking about, they’re going to start visiting your blog and will most likely share your content too.

You also need to know how to write your content in a way that will rank your blog posts on first page of Google or other search engines.

If you can learn how to get your blog posts ranked, then your website will be able to generate a stream of FREE traffic to your blog and you’ll start making money!

Again, if you don’t know how to do this, you should really check out the affiliate marketing training program that I’ve used here.

5) Consistency Is Key

Consistency & TimeIn any type of business, consistency is key. Keep updating your blog with content so your readers can keep learning from you.

As a result, they will also keep sharing your posts, which will drive in more traffic.

Keep improving your online presence by communicating with them, like replying to their messages on your social media accounts, to the comments section, and even join them in small discussions.

When you have gained their trust and have built a strong relationship with them, you can already recommend your products.

Do not rush in selling them something, otherwise, they’ll notice that it’s just business for you and that you don’t really want to help them.

It also takes a lot of time to rank your posts so it’s very crucial that in your early months, that you are consistently working on your affiliate marketing business or else it will not produce much results for you.

A lot of people in the first year of building this business because they think it doesn’t work, but it does if you KEEP AT IT.

After 12 months, your website will have more authority and will gain more trust from search engines as well.

That is when you’ll be getting more and more higher rankings and, thus, more traffic and income.

Here’s my income chart for the first two years+ of this website you’re on for Work Anywhere Now:

Sep 2016 - Dec 2018 Wealthy Affiliate results by month

See how I have earned next to nothing during that first year, but I was working consistently every week to continuously building even though I was not earning much money.

So, I have pushed past that first year and the site starts to make 3 digits by the end of first year and it just grows rom there on out.

Most people will quit during that first year because they don’t think it’s working but it takes longer to get ranked these days because search engines want to know you are going to stick around before they give you any great rankings.

6) You Must Have Perseverance

There will always be ups and downs in businesses, and affiliate marketing is no exception. For many of us, it was not a smooth journey at all. There were a lot of bumps along the way.

If you incur problems, you will just need to find ways to solve it and this is part of your learning process.  A lot of this is learning as you go.

So, problems are going to be a given in building any business, so expect them and be wise about it as a learning opportunity.

Every time you climb over one of these obstacles, you’re one step closer to your goal!  So bring on those problems, I say!

never give up

Unfortunately, for some beginners, they get discouraged right away because it has been two to three months and still no regular income.

I didn’t receive any significant income for quite a while as you saw above, but that did not stop me from pursuing and actually pushing even harder as I was finishing my first year.

It’s actually common for an affiliate to achieve a regular income after six months of working hard. For some, it may even take up to a year. So, don’t give up easily.

If a stay at home mom can do this, so can YOU too!

But, you’re going to need HELP, which brings me to the next section below.

7) Get Training!

Thumbs UpA lot of new affiliates dismiss the idea of getting training. They believe they can learn along as they embark their affiliate marketing journey. While this might be true for some, unfortunately, others are not as lucky.

Affiliate marketing is becoming more competitive, and if you have no idea what you’re doing, you’re going to get left out. Fast.

There are proven techniques and strategies to learn, especially if you have no idea about how to rank your website on search engines.

This is the golden nugget you need to learn because without FREE traffic, you’ll always be paying for it and you don’t want that.

You need to build this free traffic first then when your site makes money, then you can reinvest that money and scale your business with paid traffic.

How To Earn Money Online - Community SupportYou will also need help and support along the way, the training platform I use has a COMMUNITY of people like you all building their online business in affiliate marketing.
