Wanting to do surveys at Toluna but not sure if you’ll get paid or if Toluna is a scam?  Does Toluna work?  What is Toluna?

It doesn’t take much to look at a survey site and see if it’s worth your time, Toluna is no different.  Within less than 10 minutes I was locked out of my account and can’t get back in.

More on that later, but first impressions speak volume and I’m totally not impressed from the get-go here.

My review below will give you more details on what you can expect at Toluna and how much you can potentially make here if any.

WHAT IS TOLUNA?

Program Name: Toluna

Website: toluna.com

Price: Free

Owner: Toluna Group

Recommended? No

Toluna is a survey platform that is a little different than other ones I’ve seen.  This review is for their United States site as they have other sites for other countries.

They have more of a community and a chance to create content to influence others on the platform such as polls, topics, battles and thumbs it – all of which asks other members to answer a quick question or if they like this or that type polls.

This is a more fun aspect of the platform and seems different than other survey platforms.

Once you sign up, you will earn 500 points right off the bat which brings me back to my sign up disappointment.

I signed up to check things out in there, and within a few minutes for some reason, whatever I clicked on (not the logout link), it brought back out to the main home page like it logged me out.

When I tried to log back in, I couldn’t and it said my info was wrong.

I even tried the “forgot password” link in case I typed in the wrong password, but submitting my email to get a password reset didn’t even work, I never received anything.

I also know that my email I signed up with was correct because I actually verified my email and I got in with it.

This kind of experience can deter anyone from trying again and I certainly didn’t get a good first impression of their platform.

Anyway, if you can get in, the Toluna platform provides you with several ways to earn points.  Once you earned enough points, you can redeem them for gift cards and even a PayPal option.

It’s usually when you want to redeem is where the problems are with survey sites so let’s see if these guys pay out.

HOW TOLUNA REALLY WORKS

In this section, I will go over how you will earn points, how do you redeem and what complaints are about this Toluna survey platform.

How To Earn Points

There are multiple ways to earn points here:

  • Surveys:
    • Main way to earn your points
    • Accessed via platform or email invitation
    • Earn 15 – 20,000 points for each survey
    • Time varies with length of survey usually quick like a few minutes or as long as 35 mins
    • If disqualified you will get to be entered in a sweepstake or they give you points to compensate
  • Product Testings:
    • Test products in the comfort of your own home
    • You keep the products you test
    • Provide your opinion of the products you test

Those are the main ways to earn on there but there are community things you can do also earn more:

  • Mini Polls: you can create polls for people to answer to get 100 points, it’s just a simple yes or no poll.
  • Battles: you can write about why you like one thing vs another and get points for this too.
  • Thumb It: you usually add a photo to your discussion here to induce others to vote if they like it or not.
  • Friend Referrals: for 500 points for each referral, you can invite others to the platform and join what you do as well.

How Much Are The Points Worth?

Not a lot.

You’re looking at 3,000 points for $1 and that’s for both gift cards and PayPal payouts.

There are definitely tons of gift cards to choose from but I didn’t see big names like Amazon, but did see Target and Starbucks.

Toluna Gift Cards Available to Redeem

The gift cards seem to start at about $10 so you’ll need 30,000 points to redeem anything and if you want to be paid out in cash, you will need 90,000 points as the minimum is $30 for PayPal.

This is one of the lowest payout survey sites I’ve seen.

If you think other survey sites already earns you pocket change, this is even worse.

I’ve never been a fan of survey sites for this very reason.

Complaints Are Voluminous

Like all survey sites, Toluna has had many and they are in line with the complaints of other survey sites.

Payment Delays

Most common is when you try to cash out they make you wait for over a month to get any type of gift card.

I can’t think of a reason why redeeming a gift card should take so long since majority of them are available online do not need to be sent by mail.

Even payments as instant as PayPal will take you awhile to receive and I’m not okay with this.

Account Disabled

It’s always when you’re collecting your points and have racked up tons of points, they go and disable or shut down your account for no apparent reason to the members.

Members would get notified about not complying with their terms or found fraudulent activity but never anything specific about where they went wrong.

There is this one guy I found that racked up over 230,000 points just to get his account terminated for no reason what so ever.

Could you imagine the amount of time he wasted?

Survey Disqualification

No surprise here, many survey sites do this and they will do this even though you’re near the completion of the damn survey.

This will happen even if you’ve filled out your survey profile so that’s very lame, what’s the profile survey for then?

They do compensate for this by putting you in some bogus sweepstake or give you a little bit of points.

Increase In Minimum Payouts

Toluna seems to be paying less than before.

You used to be able to get PayPal payouts of $20 for 60,000 points but that has been increased to 90,000 points and $30.

You gotta get pissed off about this if you’re really close to 60,000 points and then they do this to you.

It seems from the complaints that they have been increasingly not payout as they did before and taking months on end but still never receiving the gift cards members earned.

Real Testimonies

I’d thought I give you guys some real life examples of the complaints I found on other review sites that speaks volumes on what your experience could be like if you also sign up with Toluna.

IS TOLUNA A SCAM?

Toluna seems to have a better reputation in the earlier days but it seems lately that they have slowed the payout process by quite a bit.

Not only they will increase your minimum payout amounts but they will take months to get your gift cards redeemed.

Accounts are also being disabled as they approach the payout limit.

These are definitely all red flags.

Because they have paid out, I can’t call this a complete scam but they are definitely falling in that category the more they delay payouts and disabling people’s accounts.

This Toluna site is a total waste of time and I would not recommend it if it’s the last survey site online.

You won’t hear about these types of complaints and you will have more options to earn money on more legitimate sites like Swagbucks (100 Swagbucks = $1, sign up here) and Fusion Cash (earn cash only, sign up here (USA & CANADA ONLY)

However, none of these sites will earn you big bucks unless you build your own online business.

If you’re looking to replace your income or make more money than any survey can get you, then keep reading below.

I highly do not recommend Toluna.

YOU’RE BETTER OFF TRYING THIS

I know survey sites seem easy but most of them, if not all, are time wasters.

I’ve also tried these sites when I first started out but being a stay at home mom, I wanted to contribute to my family with a bigger income and these survey sites weren’t giving it to me.

I then searched to see how to build a full time business and realized I need to build it myself.

With the help of some much needed training, I’m now living proof that it’s possible to make a consistent monthly income online without having to count pennies or waste time doing surveys.

  1. Hello Grace,

Thanks for sharing your review! I’ve never been a big fan of survey sites. I just don’t have the patience to make money with it. It sounds like a scam to me… stacking a ton of points and getting your account disabled. I will definitely share this with my readers. Cheers!

    Kind Regards,

  4. Toluna was never the easiest ‘Get-Paid-To’ site to use – it wasn’t a scam but the offers and surveys it had weren’t great, plus they didn’t pay out a lot.

However, I have earned over $500 in around 18 active months on Points2Shop, which has a much better success rate on offers and pays out a lot more than Swagbucks. It’s not the greatest way of making money but if you have a spare 10/20 minutes every day, you can consistently make $3-5 from the comfort of your own home.

    • Thanks for sharing your experience with us Adam, really appreciate it. 🙂

Did you know that if you did what I do for 18 months you could be earning a 4 digit online income like I do? Not just for one month, if you did what I do for 18 months, you’ll be earning 4 digits every month once you reach that milestone.

Mind you it’s a lot more work of course than taking surveys or clicking around a GPT site, but well worth it as you can see.

Anyway, you can find the exact method I used to build my online business in my free guide here and do the same as I did if you want to make more than $500 in 18 months.

      Thanks for swinging by!

  5. Toluna surveys: ripoff, fraud: sometimes I spend five to ten minutes on a survey and they collect a lot of data before determining I am not “qualified” or ” the survey just filled up” and terminate the survey without any compensation. They should qualify the testers BEFORE collecting all the data!!!

Toluna is a ripoff when they do pay, and otherwise its a fraud. on the plus side, some of the surveys are interesting.

But not worth the TIME IF YOU WANT TO MAKE MONEY.

    • Hi Ralph, I’m sorry to hear about your experience and glad you shared it with others here. Yeah, I don’t think they are the best site but in reality, there are not many survey sites that are legit.

They all kind of have these problems where they waste your time filling out 90% of the survey just so you can find out you’ve been disqualified. Or, when you’re close to payout limit, they shut down your account.

Majority of the survey sites out there are NOT a reliable source of income.

What’s a more dependable way to make money online is having your own online business which I have done and earn a 4 digit online income every month with it.

      Best,
      Grace
