Working from home is a luxury for the most part and everyone wants this lifestyle but why do you want to work from home?
I know I really love it and am very grateful to have this opportunity but there are cons to working from home as well that you wouldn’t really think about before you actually start doing it.
Today I want to explore this side of working from home so that others can think about it before they quit their day job to work from home.
There are definitely certain aspects to think about and also assess if you have what it takes to be discipline enough to work from home.
I think people want to work from home because of the freedom and comfort of your own home, but before you try it, consider the points I will cover in this post.

FINDING WORK TO DO FROM HOME
Working from home sounds great but what will you do at home? Will it be a job or will you build a business?
Finding a remote job these days are definitely easier than before but what I found is that there are also a lot of scams out there, and I know this from personal experience.
Especially if you go on freelancing sites, there are people out to pretend to give you a job interview and then it turns out all they really want is your bank info to scam all your money! Be very careful!
Going to reputable online job boards will be your best bet and ensure that you can get an in-person or at least a phone interview, the scammers won’t do those, they will do it over text like on Google Hangout.
If you can’t find a work from home job, then what do you do? Usually, the next thought is to do your own thing and find your own way.
I find this is especially stressful as well because there seems to be many possibilities and at the same time also seem impossible to do any of it.
I find that people don’t know where to go or what they should concentrate on first. This is why it’s crucial to find yourself a program that can train you on a proven path that works.

TOO MUCH FREEDOM AND EASY DISTRACTIONS
Working from home means you have the freedom to set your own schedule, work on things you want, and build your dream.
However, because you are at home, you can take that freedom too far and get very easily distracted like:
Watching TV- Snacking
- Playing with Pets
- Napping (this is hard to resist!)
- Listening to music
- Scrolling on news/social media
The list goes on and on. You can easily lose a lot of time when you let yourself get distracted at home which is one of the major pitfalls of working from home.
If you have children at home, that’s even worse, because now you’re even pulled at different directions at multiple times throughout your day.
Some like me have no choice in that, I have to have my children here as that’s my primary role in all this, so you have to make it work.
You have to be able to turn that TV off, tune out from all the distractions around, and set yourself up with a schedule that provides a plan for your day to be productive.
Make yourself a to-do list everyday on what needs to be accomplished and if you can see those boxes checked off by the end of the day, you will feel very good about your work.
Whether it’s a schedule or list, having something that guides your day will help you so much to avoid these distractions and time wasters, giving you a productive day and produce great results from your work.
ARE YOU A DISCIPLINED PERSON?
This is certainly a question you want to ask yourself and have considerable thought over. If you can be disciplined to avoid the pitfalls of working from home, then you can be successful at it.
However, if you need a boss that tells you what needs to be done everyday, then you are better off going to a job and that’s not necessarily a bad thing.
Some people like the routine of going to a job and maybe finding working from home daunting from all the freedom it brings which can be stressful if it’s hard for you to concentrate at home.
Being able to work from home requires high discipline to get the work done, especially if you are building an online business on your own.
You will need to know how to plan out your days and know what needs to get done everyday in order for you to achieve certain goals.
If you can’t be disciplined to come up with a plan, then you’ll likely work better in an office job environment and I feel that’s okay.
You just need to find out and assess what kind of person you are and what type of environment allows you to perform your best.
THE PRESSURES OF NOT MAKING ENOUGH MONEY
If you are pressed to make money for yourself or family, working from home may not be the best choice for you then because it takes time to build a business or, even as a freelancer, it takes time to build up your online portfolio or profile.
If you can find a job that you can do from home, of course, that would be ideal but most of us are working from home to build a business to be your own boss.
The beginnings of any business, online or offline, start of slow and even lose money in the beginning because of the money you invest to start up a business.
Therefore, this pressure of not making enough money can be very stressful and can lead to someone quitting on their dreams.
This is a big reason why a lot of people stop blogging because it does take time to get it to a point where you can make a full time income with like a year or more.
Which in the big scheme of things, it’s not a long time… I would sacrifice a couple of years for that matter if I can build something can make me a full time income in two years.
However, not a lot of people have that luxury to have two years time to do that, they need to make money now.

I think you first need to think about what is your end goal? What are you trying to achieve?

If you have assessed that you can work from home and will be disciplined enough to do the work, then this is the plan for you.
If have a day job, keep that going and you will need to work extra hard! This is because you’ll be going back to school sort of speak.
We all have spare time we can squeeze out by watching less tv, using your night time better, and less going out on weekends so you can have the freedom of working on your online business from home in a couple of years.
You see, the ones that are successful in this game, does just that! They keep out all the distractions and time wasters and they get to work!
