Transcribe Anywhere is a course that will teach you how to make an online or offline career in transcription and will show you ways on where to get work to get you started.
The course is created by Janey Shaughnessy who has been a transcriptionist for 10 years and owns Zoom Transcription Services as well.
She has put everything she knows about transcribing into these courses and she leaves nothing out with much details to make this very comprehensive for you.
The goal of her courses are to make you go from a newbie to a professional transcriptionist in 4 – 6 months but each of those courses can be finished in less than that time, depending on how much time you spend on it.
There are great nuggets of knowledge she shares in the two courses and it’s not simply a PDF download either, you’ll truly get real training with multiple modules to learn from and enough material that you will need 2 months or more to go through.
This is serious business for Janet so if you want to make a career out of transcription, this course may be for you.
I will go over each course in more details in a bit but I find that Janet is very genuine and open to connect with you so support is always there.
You will not be left with a course that you can’t understand as Janet also provides a support group on Facebook for anyone needing her personal help.
I find this as an added bonus because when you go do something new or you’re not that familiar with it, it’s good to talk with someone as experienced as Janet.
What Is Transcription?
Transcription is basically taking an audio or video medium and transcribing it into readable text. There are many reasons why people need this sort of work done for them and that’s why it can be a good source of income for those wanting to do this kind of work.
The audio medium can be anything that is not written, a meeting, a court case, a video, an audio recording, anything that you listen to or don’t need to read.
The reasons why transcription is needed is so for those who can’t listen to the meeting or speech can then read about it.
Another reason is for simple SEO reasons, when you’re searching for a video, you search with words on a search engine right? If your video description doesn’t have any words then your video will not be found.
Therefore, many YouTubers may be wanting this service so they don’t have to spend that time to transcribe on their own.
There are plenty of reasons why audio and video files must be transcribed into text and if you’re really good at it, you can really make a career about of this.
COURSES AVAILABLE
There are two courses available at Transcribe Anywhere and they are:

I will go through what each one shortly but Janet also provides these free mini courses too so you can determine whether transcription is good for you or not.
This is always a great option to have so you can find out if you like doing this type of work before you pay anything, which is a good option to have.
General Transcription Course
This course focuses on transcribing any audio or video file into text, except in legal which is what the other course is for.
This is not necessarily just for medical transcription, this is for any type of transcriptions besides legal transcription.
It will show you what you need for equipment and comes with 6 modules:
- Module 1 – Laying Down The Foundation: Understanding what general transcription is, what you need to get started, explanation of the styles of transcription, types of transcription jobs out there, and how to format a transcript.
- Module 2 – Essential Skills for Excellent Transcription: This module covers correct usage of punctuation, spelling, and critical thinking skills required to be a great transcriber.
- Module 3 – Time-Saving Tools for Efficient Transcription: You get to learn ways on how to be very efficient in your work and speed. You’ll learn shortcut keys, how to use transcriptionist’s notes, how to use transcription templates, and video time coding.
- Module 4 – Practice Dictations: You will get to practice real life dictations and there are seven practice levels with this. You will start easy dictations, then you will get more and more difficult ones to practice on.
- Module 5 – Building Your Business: This module really takes you into how to begin your business as a transcriptionist, things you’ll need, where you’ll find contracts, income guidelines and knowing how to set your rates, and marketing.
- Module 6 – Final Exam and Certification of Completion: When you reach this point, you are offered to take a final exam which will be marked by a real person and valuable feedback will be provided to you. If you pass the exam, you will be issued a Certificate of Completion which you can show off to your potential clients.
Legal Transcription Course
The Legal Transcription course is much more intense with 16 modules to go through which I won’t detail out here but will go through it in summary.
This course is more focused on transcription for legal reasons so whether you are transcribing a court case, depositions, law enforcements, or legal conferences / meetings.
The first couple of modules will be intro to legal transcription, what it is and the tools you’ll need for this specific area.
Then the next three modules focuses on specific legal terminology that you should know, the skills you need for this type of transcription, and software you’ll need.
Module 6 through 8 goes into how legal correspondence works, the legal process, court procedures, and the types of forms and templates you’ll need.
After that, you’ll go through Modules 9 – 13 where you’ll learn and practice how to transcribe in specific situations for specific types of work: court proceedings, depositions, law enforcement and meetings.
You will also need to learn time coding for legal transcription in Module 13, while in Module 14, you’ll get tons of tools and resources you can use in this legal space.
In Module 15, you will take the final exam and if you pass, you will also get a Certificate of Completion here as well.
Finally, Module 16 offers you ideas and plans on how to make this your full time business.

The courses at Transcribe Anywhere aren’t totally expensive while it’s not super cheap either, it’s kind of in the middle and probably cost less than if this was at a college or university.
The tuition fees are as follows:
General Transcription course – $597 – this includes lifetime membership to the course, Facebook group support, email support, and forever updates.
If you can’t afford that, they have a “Pay-As-You-Go” option and you just pay for parts of it. This course is split into 3 levels:
- Level 1 – $127 – you’ll get Modules 1 & 2 for 30 days.
- Level 2 – $362 (you only pay the difference if you upgrade from Level 1) – you’ll get Modules 1 -4 for 60 days.
- Level 3 – $597 ((or $470 upgrade from Level 1; $235 upgrade from Level 2) – you’ll get everything here.
Legal Transcription course – $697 – this also includes lifetime membership to the course, Facebook group support, email support, and forever updates.
You also have the “Pay-As-You-Go” option here too as follows:
- Level 1 – $197 – you’ll get Modules 1 -4 for 30 days.

IS TRANSCRIBE ANYWHERE A SCAM?
I can definitely say that Transcribe Anywhere is not a scam and that the courses Janet is offering will get you going on the new path of transcription.
Transcribe Anywhere is currently the only online transcription school that is approved by the American Association of Electronic Reporters and Transcribers, so they are totally legitimate.
I also think that her courses are reasonably priced for what you are getting in her courses and that you will be able to put into practice right away.
Do you need her courses? No, you probably don’t but like anything else in life, if you want to get good at something, you need to learn it properly and not just googling it all over the place.
If you get her courses, you will find everything you need in one place and you won’t have to scramble around to get all the info from different sources you don’t know if it’s reliable or not.
If you want to start a transcription career, this would be a good option to start with and her “Pay-As-You-Go” option is a great way to ease into it.

CONCLUSION
Transcription can make you good money if you’re doing it offline and especially in the legal capacity but for online, you can still find some good places to transcribe at, and Transcribe Anywhere tells you where you can get these types of opportunities as well.
However, the sites I’ve found & reviewed for transcribing haven’t made doing transcription as a good source of online income for the time spent doing the work but you may be able to get better rates if you go do it on freelancing sites like Fiverr.
