In this simple step-by-step guide, I will show you how to earn money on Fiverr by just doing a few things.
A lot of people are looking for ways to make money online and this is one sure way of doing it.
In this post I will show you the following:
- What Is Fiverr
- How To Setup Your Fiverr Account
- How To Choose What Service You Want To Offer
- How To Setup Your First Gig
- How To Manage and Complete Orders
- Want to Make More Money?
WHAT IS FIVERR
Fiverr is a web based freelance marketplace that connects people who can offer particular services with those who want to buy such services.
It’s a great platform to start if you are looking for ways to make money online because you’ll get a lot of traffic on there to your offers without having to promote it.
In addition, it’s a great place for people who want to outsource some things of their business like logo design or building a website or writing a jingle.
Fiverr is best known for getting great pricing to get services done at a starting price of $5. However, they’ve also made it easy for you to earn more as you can offer upgraded packages with higher pricing.
There are a variety of categories offered at Fiverr so you will have plenty of opportunities to see where you fit in and get some money for your talents!
Sellers can create a “Gig” to offer their services while buyers can create a “Request” to solicit sellers instead of searching for gigs that offer the particular service they want.
Sellers can have many gigs on Fiverr and you can be rated by the buyers of your gigs. The better ratings you get, the better ranking your gigs will receive in the Fiverr search results, and the more orders you’ll receive because people will see you have been doing a great job on your services.
This sums up what Fiverr is, so let’s get right to getting you set up with your first gig!
HOW TO SETUP YOUR FIVERR ACCOUNT
STEP 1:
Go to Fiverr’s website (fiverr.com), you will need to either sign in if you already have an account or join.
STEP 2:
Click on Join and in the box provided, you can use the following:
- your own email address;
- your Facebook account; or
- your Google account.
STEP 3:
Next, you will choose a username and password. Write it down so you don’t forget. 🙂
STEP 4:
Activate your account: You will receive an email from Fiverr and you’ll need to click on the “Activate Your Account” button in that email.
Once activated, your account is ready to go!
HOW TO CHOOSE WHAT SERVICE YOU WANT TO OFFER
In this section, you will take some time to explore the categories offered at Fiverr to see what services you can offer people.
STEP 1:
Research the categories that are available to you which are:
- Graphics and Design
- Digital Marketing
- Writing & Translation
- Video & Animation
- Music & Audio
- Programming & Tech
- Advertising
- Business
- Fun & Lifestyle
Within all those categories, there are many sub-categories. Go through them thoroughly to make sure you didn’t miss anything that may be something you are good at doing.
STEP 2:
Once you’ve zoned in on a few categories that you may fit you, do the following:
- Write down what specific tasks you can offer for each one;
- Rank the tasks in order of what you’re best at and what you’d like to do best;
- Choose the best one ranked and start with that.
HOW TO SETUP YOUR FIRST GIG
Once you have chosen what service you’re going to sell, it’s time to set up your first gig! Let’s take a look at the steps below to get your earning money!
STEP 1:
On top of your Fiverr dashboard, you should see button called “Start Selling“, click on that button and then the “Become a Seller” button will show up on your main screen, click on that button next.
STEP 2:
The next step is to fill out your profile. Every seller must have a profile so others can learn about you.
You don’t have to fill out everything but it’s important to at least have a photo of you and a description.
If you can add skills, it’ll be even better for you so that people know what you’re good at.
First impressions are important as a freelancer, your buyers will take just seconds to determine whether they want to work with you or not just by looking at your profile.
Therefore, the more info you can profile, the better chance they will want to work with you.
Once your profile is done, go to the bottom and click the green “Continue & Create Your First Gig” button.
STEP 3:
On this screen, you will create your first gig. All future gigs that you create will have these six steps as well.
TIP: Before you start filling this out, check out other gigs that offer the same service as you so you can get examples of what should be included, what not to do, and use it to guide you through as you fill your gig out but do not copy their work obviously.
OVERVIEW:
Your gig title will be very important and should be very basic as to the service you are offering.
The “I will” is already done for you, you just have to start from the third word onwards.
For example, you will just start typing “create a website for you” (no need for period or punctuations as they are not allowed) and you’ll see just below that box if your title is good enough or not.
Next, select the category you had picked earlier when choosing what service to offer. You should also select any sub-category and options that Fiverr gives you as you select things.
Search tags are important, they are words that will help people find your gig. Use all five if possible.
Once this is all complete, click on the green “Save & Continue” button.
STEP 4: PRICING
If you’re just starting out, I suggest you start with a basic package of $5. You can increase this as you get better ranked within Fiverr and when you start getting many orders.
You can offer more services with the Standard and Premium packages which you can charge more for.
Fill in all slots that are available and applicable to you. The more info you can offer up front, the better the gig.
Once you have the three packages filled out, you can press the “Save & Continue” button again to move on to the next tab.
Gig extras is a great way to get more money from your buyers like a faster service. You can easily add $5 for doing something quicker.
STEP 5: DESCRIPTION & FAQ
The description here is very crucial, this explains what each package will entail. Be precise, detailed, and clear about what you are offering.
There’s a minimum amount of 120 characters you’ll need to write here and a maximum amount of 1,200 characters allowed.
So use this space wisely and make sure you use it to your full advantage to explain the services you’re offering in each package.
Again, you can look at other gigs similar to your service to see what and how they do it for example sake.
You will not need to fill out the FAQ, however, it’s easy for your potential buyer to just get a few quick questions answered just by looking at this section.
Usually FAQ will include:
- What’s required of the buyer
- How long the gig will take to complete
- If you’re writing something, how many words is required
- What’s expected of you as the seller
STEP 6: REQUIREMENTS
The requirements of the gig are things you’ll need from the buyer as soon as they order you gig because without them, you won’t be able to start your work.
The time starts ticking as soon as you receive the order so it doesn’t matter when you receive an order while you’re sleeping, your order starts right there when it hits your account.
Therefore, when you wake up to your new order, you’d want these requirements already available to you so you can start your work as your order is timed based on what you put in the Pricing tab.
Make sure you enter in everything you’ll need from your buyer to limit the amount of time it’ll take to communicate with the buyer back and forth as to what you need.
Click “Save & Continue” once your requirements are put in.
STEP 7: GALLERY
This is a visual of your portfolio and you have several formats you can use to feature your work: video, photos and PDFs.
If you use images, you’re only allowed three and the best dimensions to use are 550 px by 370 px. People usually use the Primary photo as their “banner” for their gig and will include their gig title in the image.
Try to use all spaces available for whatever format you choose to showcase your work. You can use more than one format as well.
Click “Save & Continue” once gallery is completed.
STEP 8: PUBLISH
Here’s the exciting step, publishing your first gig!!
Because this is your first gig, you need to verify by phone first. So when you are ready with your phone, click on “Verify Now” and follow the steps to get verified.
Once you are verified, you are published!
CONGRATULATIONS!! You’ve published your first Fiverr gig!
HOW TO MANAGE AND COMPLETE ORDERS
MANAGING ORDERS:
As a seller, you will now have a new “Selling” menu on top of your Fiverr dashboard:
You will see all your new and completed orders under Orders. There, you will manage your orders to figure out which one needs to be done first and when each order is due.
Under Gigs, this is where you’ll find all your gigs, active or not, you will find them all there. You can view them, edit them anytime and update them if needed.
You can also see how many impressions, clicks, views, orders for your gigs under the Gigs menu.
You’ll also have analytics on how your gigs and orders are doing under Analytics, which I don’t think is that useful. I like looking at the stats under Gigs menu.
COMPLETING ORDERS:
Once your work is done and ready to give to your buyer, you will go to your order under Orders and click on the “Deliver Your Work” button or something similar to that effect, it should be obvious.
Once you click on that button, you need to attach anything that the buyer is expecting like a file, an URL, or whatever it is you’re delivering in that message.
The message should also include a nice message thanking the buyer for their order and how you hope they will like your work, etc.
Once it’s delivered, your buyer will also make the order “complete” on their end and offer you a rating. If the buyer does not complete the order on their end, the system will do so automatically in 3 days after you delivered.
The buyer has up to 30 days to rate their experience with you.
If you do get a rating from them, you also as an opportunity to rate the buyer back. This is a good opportunity to say how nice it was to work with them and that you look forward to more dealings in the future.
WANT TO MAKE MORE MONEY?
If you want to make even more money, there’s a better way than going on Fiverr to freelance your services.
I think freelancing is a good way to make money online but I don’t feel it’s the best way because it’s very short term and doesn’t build you passive income.
The best way to make money online is through building an online business with affiliate marketing which has a potential to earn a full time income, which of course depend on your dedication and commitment.
There’s a training platform that can teach you how to do all this and it’s at Wealthy Affiliate.
Everything you need to build an affiliate marketing business is right there on that platform including but not limited to:

Let’s make money online!
Howdy! This is my first visit to your blog and I love the info on here!
I have been searching about Fiverr and saw your article and I’m glad to learn how to use it and how to make money with it.
How do you get paid? Is it easy to get paid?
Frank
Hi Frank and glad you found my blog. 🙂
You can get paid three ways: PayPal, Direct Deposit, or Fiverr gift card.
It does take awhile to get your money because each gig has a 14 day holding period which is really annoying. Then when you want to withdrawal, it’s a $1 fee with PayPal and direct deposit… so I would collect a larger amount before withdrawing so save on the fee.
Also, set up your payment method early or else you’ll have another 24 hold on it when you do update it later when you want to withdraw.
Hope this helps!
Grace
It seems to be easy to make money with Fiverr. I like your simple guide to take me through how to set up one of those gigs. Is it hard to get your money out of that platform when you’ve earned it?
Hi Gary, thanks for visiting my blog, and glad you can learn more about Fiverr.
It’s not hard to get your money out but it’s a bit of a wait. Therefore, first you should set up the method you want to withdraw with so that’s ready to go when you need it or else you will need to wait longer if you set it up later when you want to withdraw.
There is also a 2 week wait for your funds to be available to withdraw once your gig is completed. If your gig started on a Monday but it doesn’t complete til Friday, then the 2 week wait starts on Friday.
Besides the wait time, it’s not hard to get your money. You can do it by PayPal, Direct Deposit into a US bank account, or get a Fiverr gift card, those are the only three ways to get your money for now.
I hope this helps, please let me know if you have anymore questions.
Grace
Hey,It’s My First Visit To Your Blog And Really,It Seems Helpful. Your Guide Is Superb But Everytime I Am Trying To Create A Gig On Fiverr, It Says “You Need To Verify Your Email” However I Had Verified It 3 Times!
Any Solution?
I would just email Fiverr and ask them what’s going on with that. Their support responds within a day so it’s not too long of a wait.
Thanks for visiting!
Grace
Hi Grace,
I hope this guide also work for me and keep writing.
Why not? 🙂 Hi Lana, I’m sure this guide will work for your too. 🙂
