In this post, I’m going to share with you what the affiliate marketing business model is and how you’re going to create a business plan for your new venture.
If your affiliate marketing business will be your source of living and you’re going to struggle more than you should, it will create a lot of uncertainty and frustrations.
This is particularly true when you have invested a lot of time, patience, and hard work, only to be stuck and no less further than what you have planned.
This might be because while you understand what affiliate marketing is and how it works, you may not know how to do it the right way.
Most people who use affiliate marketing aren’t using the right strategies and have no idea how to get targeted traffic to their offers.
And if they do, they don’t know how to convert their visitors into sales.
So, with this simple business model, you actually have a lot to learn about it!
If You Haven’t Made Any Money With Affiliate Marketing,
See My Secret Weapon To My Success:
What Is The Affiliate Marketing Business Model?
It basically involves you (the affiliate marketer), the affiliate products and services, and your target consumers.
In a nutshell, you’re going to promote other people’s products and services. These promotions will be traced back to you through your special affiliate links. When you make a sale through your affiliate links, you’re going to earn commissions.
It’s likely that you already know about this, but implementing this can be a challenge.
Keep in mind that although affiliate marketing is the most effective way to generate income online, if it’s not done right, you’re going to waste a lot of your time and effort.
So, how do you go about this?
You must have a strong affiliate marketing business plan. Once you come up with a well-strategic plan, you’ll have a clear and organized path for your business.
This will make sure that each effort you invest will play a role in the overall success of your business.
The Benefits of an Affiliate Marketing Business Plan
Even if it’s not your own products and services, having a good marketing plan will make a huge difference long-term.
Here are the reasons why you should come up with a business plan:
- A clear path to your goals – Your focus here is to achieve your goals. Having a plan will keep you in check of your progress, and if things aren’t going as planned, you can always adjust and see how it goes.
- Proper management of your time – If you keep track of your progress, you can manage your time better, even when you need to do some adjustments to your plan or affiliate marketing program.
The 4 Important Elements of a Solid Affiliate Marketing Business Plan
Making an effective marketing plan can also be a bit challenging.
To make it easier and less confusing for you, you must take note of four elements as you develop your plan for your affiliate marketing business model.
#1) Your Ultimate Goal and Objectives
Knowing what your ultimate goal is will be the basis of your business plan. However, in order to achieve that, you must also have your objectives, which will lead you to your ultimate goal.
Pro tip: Your goals must be clear, specific, and realistic. For instance, if you’re going to say that your goal is to earn money – that is too vague.
Instead, you can say, “I want to make $xxx within 6 months.” This is clear, specific, and will motivate you more to achieve that objective.
You may want to define a niche you want to go into at this high level as well.
Determining what topic you’ll be building your affiliate marketing business around requires some research into what’s available and the earning potential of such a niche.
#2) Research and Analysis
Now that you know where you’re heading, the next thing you’re going to do is perform some research and analysis so you can better understand your competition and more importantly, your target consumers.
There are several ways to go about this, the important thing is you will learn how to better address your target audience and come up with methods how you can be better than your competitors, like developing or expanding what they currently have so you can attract more audience to your side.
You will also analyze the affiliate products in the niche that you had picked and figure out what offers you will be promoting.
Picking affiliate products in the $50 – $200 range is the best because it’s not high enough to make consumers to have to think too hard on it while you can make higher commissions with higher prices.
Or, you may look at digital products in the niche which may offer much higher commission percentages than physical products.
Lastly, the best affiliate programs to use are the membership or subscription type ones where you can earn recurring commissions for as long as those members stay!

#3) Your Finances
There are a lot of ways you can do affiliate marketing without spending a dime.
However, if you plan to do this long-term, you will eventually have to spend to improve your affiliate marketing efforts and to be ahead of your competitors.
So, you must know how to manage your finances and keep tabs of all that you paid for. This is to ensure that you’re also not spending too much and not really getting in return.
Also, you have to keep track of how much you’re earning. If you notice that you’re slowing down, then something needs to be changed or improved.
You may want to also plan for other tools you may want to add to your business as you go.
In the beginning, your costs are minimal with a domain, website, and hosting, but eventually, you may want training, email autoresponder, or analysis tools, etc.
#4) Your Marketing Strategies
How you’re going to market your affiliate products and services will make or break your campaign.
If you don’t know how to showcase your products and share your message to others, you’re not going to get customers. And, if there are no customers, your whole business will likely fail.
There are so many ways you can market your product. If you have the budget, you can go for paid advertising on different channels, particularly social media. You can use Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.
However, once you start paying, you’ll always be paying. As well, if you don’t know how to do paid advertising, you can lose a lot of money quickly without much results.
Therefore, it would be more wise if you started with building free traffic first like how many new affiliates start, you can focus on your website. It will be the main source of your promoting efforts.
Websites today are cheap and even free for some platforms. Since there’s no need to spend much, this is the affiliate marketing business model many affiliates start with, especially in a blog format.
It’s very easy to install a WordPress blog on a website these days, and blogs are great because you can use many SEO strategies with it to bring in thousands of free traffic just like my blog here.
Here’s my Jan/19 traffic as per Google Analytics, 100% free highly targeted search traffic:
SEO has been by far one of my biggest traffic generators and no social media could match it.
Once you know this online skill, you could be earning for years online. If you want to know where I learned it, it’s all in my money making guide here.
How to Promote Your Products on Your Website
Before you can start promoting your products, you must first build a bond between you and your target audience. You must first become valuable to them by providing them useful content.
Your content must consist of ideas, helpful tips, guides, etc. that they can use in their everyday lives. Make sure though that you stay relevant to your niche and to the products you’re going to sell them.
Since your objective here is to be valuable to your readers, it’s important that you stick to what you know and love. It will be quite difficult for you if you’re going to choose a topic mainly because it’s profitable.
So, your topic must be something you’re interested in that you can see yourself talking about and marketing for a long time, and at the same time, must be profitable.
Always keep in mind that the more helpful you are to your readers, the more likely your business is going to grow!
Free Traffic Methods
You can start building your free traffic by going through some of the options I will briefly mention here but ultimately, what you really want is traffic from SEO.
The other free methods have nothing on SEO method, so if you want to drive traffic like I’ve shown you above for my site, then reading the next section to learn how to do this is very crucial for your affiliate marketing business plan.
The way to use the SEO method is to either have a blog or create YouTube videos, so you have two choices really but most people don’t know how to do videos so it’s much easier to learn how to write blog posts like this which is much easier to learn.
The other free traffic methods are social media like Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, etc, online forums like Quora, or Facebook groups. You need to know where your audience is hanging out at and go there to see what questions they are asking.
This is how you’ll know how you can help them and what content to put on your blog that answers those questions.
You don’t have to do them all but focus on the big one, SEO method, then do some of the social media and that’s it.
Training is Important
Like any other business, affiliate marketing can be difficult when you’re just starting, and I want to help you with that.
You need to be equipped with the right knowledge on organizing your affiliate marketing business model, starting a website, learning the different aspects of affiliate marketing, writing content, etc.
The best way to achieve this is to get training as I have tried doing it on my own before it was did not turn out well.
